AMADEUS River Cruises has announced the launch of AMADEUS Douro, a new hybrid river ship scheduled to debut on Portugal’s Douro River in 2028. Operating from March through November, the vessel marks the company’s entry into the fast-growing Douro market and will offer round-trip itineraries from Porto through the UNESCO-listed Douro Valley.
Purpose-built to navigate the river’s narrow passages and historic locks, AMADEUS Douro will feature hybrid propulsion technology designed to reduce emissions while maintaining the line’s signature onboard experience. The ship will accommodate 111 guests in 54 staterooms and two suites, most with drop-down panoramic windows or private balconies.
“We are delighted to bring the AMADEUS experience to the Douro River, one of Europe’s most beautiful and culturally rich regions,” said Marcus Leskovar, President of AMADEUS River Cruises. “The Douro Valley has become an increasingly popular destination, and with AMADEUS Douro we are excited to offer our partners and guests a truly immersive way to explore its extraordinary scenery, wine heritage, and historic towns.”
Public spaces will include an open sun deck with a swimming pool, lounge area, and bar, as well as Café Vienna, a signature gathering place found across the AMADEUS fleet. Culinary programming will focus on regional Portuguese cuisine paired with locally sourced wines from the surrounding wine-producing region.
The ship will sail a collection of curated itineraries exploring northern Portugal and areas near the Spanish border. Additional details on onboard features, design elements, and inaugural sailings will be announced at a later date.
